Hiking along Danube Trail
The Danube trail, a long-distance trail featuring 125 legendary spots along the Danube from Passau past Schlögen to Grein is opened on July 3, 2010.
There are 450km of hiking trails, most along the embankments of the Danube in the Danube trail area. Some 125 vantage points and nice spots are along the trail. They offer interesting sights into the Danube valley.
Hiking on DonausteigNatural Landmark of Danube Loop
In 2008 the Schlögen Danube Loop - a highlight of Donausteig trail - was elected to be a natural landmark by the readers of the OÖ Nachrichten.
Hotel Donauschlinge is located next to the Schlögen Danube loop and is among the 70 selected Donausteig hosts that stress pleasures and walking.
If you are luck you can encounter the black stork or the eastern green lizard in our region. After an eventful hike you can enjoy a glass of Riesling wine with your trout á la meuniere and watch the boats pass by.

Ciconia Trail
This loop trail along the Danube Loop offers plenty of information on flora and fauna on its 10.5km-long route.
“Ciconia” is the Latin name of the black stork that is home in the Danube valley. Besides of geological information you learn also about plants, insects, birds of prey and the underwater world. This trail has been fitted with fascinating pictures, object and sculptures by Josef and Theresa Limberger.
