The Baroque Pearl at Green Inn River

Old and modern architecture in perfect harmony dominate the townscape and create a special atmosphere in Schärding.

The Baroque town of Schärding is located in the Upper Austrian Innviertel district, at the geographic border to Bavaria. The town with a medieval air has been shaped by architecture from different epochs. The gem of the town is the Baroque-style “Silberzeile” row of houses in the town centre.

Just as lively and versatile as the history of this unique town is the cultural life there. A colourful mixture of traditions, customs and modern times provides for variety.

There are impressive castles, cloisters and palaces that are steeped in history and vibrant towns like the neighboring town of three rivers, the town of Passau, to explore.

Passau is marked by its lively history and present.

Here the three rivers of Danube, Inn and Ilz meet and this young, old town inspires its guests again and again.

* Veste Oberhaus
The Oberhaus Museum is located in one of the biggest and most impressive fortresses of Europe, high above the roofs of Passau. Many activity stations, complex multi-media productions, movies and comics make history come alive.

* Sankt Stephan Dome and Dome Organ
The magnificent Passau Stephansdom towers at the highest spot of the old town. It holds the world’s biggest dome organ with 17,974 organ pipes, 233 registers and 4 glockenspiels.

* Bohemian Glass at the Passau Glass Museum
With 30,000 glasses it is the world’s biggest museum on Bohemian glass. “Nationally important cultural assets”.

* Kastell Boiotro Roman Museum
Since 1982 the excavated foundations of the Roman fort of Boiotro (built in the second half of the 3rd century) haven been open to the public.

* Museum of Modern Art
Located directly at the embankment of the Danube in one of the most beautiful houses of the old town. Art of the 20th and 21st century is presented there.

* Old Town and Three-Rivers-Corner
The back drop of the old town between Domberg mountain and three-rivers-corner is formed by picturesque places, labyrinthine paths and breath-taking promenades along Danube and Inn River.

The Ars Electronica Festival and the Linz Klangwolke are two internationally renowned cultural events.
